Colchester Gymclub

Colchester Gymnastics Club Was Formed In 1977

Back then various venues were used for different clubs. In the late eighties a group of coaches got together with the idea of building a purpose built training centre. A management committee known as Colchester School of Gymnastics gained charitable status in 1991 and built the gym.

The centre became increasingly popular and in July 1998 the Colchester Gymnastics Club merged with the Colchester School of Gymnastics which made the centre more manageable. Work on the long awaited extension commenced in 1999 and now offers parents and visitors a viewing gallery where they can watch the gymnasts training.

OUR AIM

Colchester School of Gymnastics (CSG) is a registered charity that exists to provide gymnastics coaching to children and young people throughout the Colchester area.

The School aims to offer access to gymnastics to all and works to increase participation by those with disabilities.

CSG is committed to devloping the skills and confidence of each individual.

The aim is to have fun while reaching the highest standards of performance.

HOW WE WORK

CSG has a long established alliliation with the British Gymnastics Association (BGA) and continues to work to devlop access to and awareness of gymnastics with pre-schools, schools and youth organisations within the local community and throughout the Region.

All of our coaches are qualified to the appropriate level and all staff and committee memebers are CRB checked.

CSG has adopted BG policies for Equipty, Codes of Conduct and Child Protection for which Welfare Officers have been appointed. All officials, coaches, members and parents must adhere to these.

Many of our young gymnasts achieve regional and national recognition whilst children in our Recreational gymnastics classes follow the BGA awards scheme.

These high standards have led to us being awarded the pretigious GymMark and ClubSX Gold Accreditations.

FACTS

CSG is a charity and has a committee made up of volunteers, a general manager and a head coach. The club currently has over 600 young gymnasts participating in many different levels of gymnastics which we are able to offer. These are structured according to ability and allow the children to devlop at their own rate.

Our choaches hold qualifications ranging from Assistant Coach (level 1) through to Club Coach all the way up to Senior Women's Artist Coach (level 5). Our head coach is a tutor for coaches within East Anglia.

We hold County and General Level Competitions at the school several times a year for which we enlist coaching staff, committee members, parents and gymnasts as helpers.

We have a National Level Judge and several General and Regional level judges to ensure that any gymnast taking part in competitions has the best possible information available to them regarding the moves they must perform.

We are linked to Colchester Borough Council's bid to host an Olympic Team for 2012 as a training venue.
